Fallbrook Fire Forces Major Evacuation, All Roads Heading in Closed

Some 40,000 residents of Fallbrook were evacuated on Monday as the Southern California wildfires continue to ravage the parched earth and all that lay atop it. While the Malibu fires grabbed the headlines initially with Pepperdine University and treatment centers like Promises attracting much of the attention it has been the infernos that have swallowed smaller communities that have provided a veritable geography lesson for those following the blazes.

The farming town of Fallbrook was yet another scene of massive evacuations as it lay in the path of the Rice Canyon Fire that hopped Interstate 15 earlier and continued west towards the town.

As the thick smoke approached officials quickly blocked off all roads heading into Fallbrook, a measure necessary to keep fire chasers from getting to close.
