Shuttle Launch Could be Delayed Due to Weather Concerns

The scheduled 11:38 a.m. liftoff of the shuttle Discovery could be delayed today due to severe rain in Cape Canaveral, Fl. As a policy, NASA will not conduct a shuttle launch in rain due to the threat of lightning.

Discovery’s seven-member crew, headed by Discovery Commander Pamela A. Melroy, is part of a mission that will continue the construction work on the International Space Station.

Earlier this morning the group had breakfast and were then taken to the shuttle and strapped in for flight at 7:45 a.m.

The crew is scheduled to return on Nov. 6.
