Procter and Gamble has issued a recall for two flavors of
Pringles potato chips due to possible Salmonella contamination. The recalled
products contain hydrolyzed vegetable protein or HVP made by Basic Food Flavors
Inc., which issued a recall after finding Salmonella in their equipment. Their recall
included all HVP in the form of powder and paste that had been manufactured
since September 2009.
The Pringles recall includes Super Stacker Canisters of Restaurant
Cravers Cheeseburger with UPC code 37000 26936 and best by dates of February
2011 and April 2011, and Super Stacker Canisters of Family Faves Taco Night
with UPC code 37000 26773 and best by dates of March 2011, April 2011 and May
2011.
The Food and Drug Administration says recalls association
with HVP manufactured by Basic Food Flavors could become much larger. “We don’t
know precisely how large this recall will get. We expect this to get larger
over the next several days to several weeks,” says Dr. Jeff Farrar of the FDA’s
Office of Foods.
