Southern California Wildfires Cause More than $1 Billion in Damages to San Diego County

With San Diego County taking the brunt of the Southern California fires the past four days officials have estimated that the damages caused by the multiple blazes has topped the $1 billion mark and that number will likely rise.

More than 1,200 of the 1,500 homes destroyed by the wildfires have been in San Diego County and hundreds of thousands of acres have been scorched since Sunday.

Containment of the Southern California fires has been made nearly impossible due to the strong Santa Ana winds that have continued to ground any efforts to attack the flames from the air.

Those strong winds are expected to subside in the near future, giving rise to a cooler sea breeze that would allow for water planes and helicopters to provide relief.
