DestinationVillas San Diego Homeowners Report a Break in the High Winds and Containment of the Wildfires

Firefighters Gain Ground and Begin to Extinguish the Fires

Destination Villas homeowners in the San Diego area are reporting a break in the high winds that have fueled the wildfires since last weekend. Improving weather allowed fire crews to make important strides in fighting the San Diego wildfires that have claimed 1500 homes and businesses from Ventura to the North, all the way to Mexico in the south.

The winds died down to 21 mph from over 100 mph, giving firefighters an opportunity to gain ground and begin to extinguish the fires. A full-scale aerial assault has been underway since the weekend when the hot, dry Santa Ana winds whipped brush fires into destructive infernos. The high winds, expected to disappear today, have left many homes in ashes. Now, many homeowners are being allowed to return to their neighborhoods, all with the hope of finding their homes unscathed. Homeowners can post details of the damage on our website by contacting us at help@destinationvillas.com.

Property Damage is estimated to be at least $1 Billion in San Diego alone. A major disaster declaration signed by President Bush this week will make funds available to those in need. Most of the homes hit by the fire were upscale year-round residences or businesses.
