Bumbo Seat recall announced after danger of serious head injuries

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced the recall of nearly a million Bumbo ‘Baby Sitter’ Seats made by Bumbo International. The voluntary recall comes after 28 reports of young children falling out of Bumbo seats that had been placed on an elevated surface. Three of the 28 children suffered skull fractures.

“If the seat is placed on a table, countertop, chair, or other elevated surface, young children can arch their backs, flip out of the Bumbo seat, and fall onto the floor, posing a risk of serious head  injuries,” said the CPSC.

The seats were sold at stores nationwide including Target, Wal-Mart, Sears, Kmart, Toys R Us, Babies R Us, and USA Babies. Consumers can contact Bumbo to get a free warning label to put on their baby seat.

The CPSC warns that the seats should only be placed on the ground, no elevated surfaces, and the child should never be left unattended.
