Stephen Colbert May Run into Problems with Federal Elections Commission

Stephen Colbert has plans to appear on both the Republican and Democratic ballot in the state of South Carolina but he may have a difficult time getting the Colbert name on either if the Federal Elections Commission ban on corporate sponsorship applies to the comedian.

Colbert is the host of Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report” and the network is owned by Viacom. Colbert recently revealed that the show was sponsored by Doritos but stressed in a comedic moment that the “cheesetastic” snack maker was a sponsor of the show and not his candidacy.

Of course Colbert is still yet to become an official candidate or even submit the required petitions to put his name on the ballot yet he has pledged to do so.

Colbert could also run into problems in his attempt to appear on both ballots. While the Republican and Democratic parties have loosely said they wouldn’t have an issue with a candidate on both tickets they may take exception when Colbert actually attempts to do so.
