Miniature Horse Gifted by Make-A-Wish Foundation Killed by Pit Bulls

A 3-year-old boy diagnosed with a malignant form of brain cancer received a miniature horse as a gift from the Make-A-Wish Foundation in late August; on Monday the horse was killed by a pair of pit bulls that had managed to enter the yard protected by a 4 ½ foot fence.

Christian Vasquez had asked for the miniature horse as part of the Make-A-Wish Foundation’s goal to provide children diagnosed with severe illnesses a desired gift.

In August that gift was delivered to Christian in the form of “Anniversary,” a 31-inch tall horse. On Saturday the Make-A-Wish Foundation delivered a pull cart, blanket, halter and a bridle set to Christian and just two days later the horse was killed.

Raul Vasquez, Christian’s father, said that he was in his Amarillo, Texas yard when he noticed the horse and then saw the two pit bulls. He said he was nearly attacked by the pair of dogs but managed to climb a tree and call police.

Animal control was able to capture one of the dogs but the other remains loose.
