Lisa Montgomery was sentenced to death today for killing Bobbie Jo Stinnett and stealing her unborn daughter. Montgomery’s trial lasted four weeks, and the jury reached their verdict after four hours of deliberation over a two day period.
Montgomery’s defense tried to convince the jury that she was insane nearly three years ago when she killed Bobbie Jo and cut her unborn daughter from her womb. They argued that Montgomery suffered from pseudocyesis – a disorder where a woman is convinced she is pregnant but really is not.
The Judge ordered those in the court room to control their emotions when the verdict was read. Montgomery began shaking when she heard the sentencing.
