The State of Law coalition led by Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Maliki reportedly holds a slight advantage after preliminary election results from two southern provinces were released.
Iraqis took to the polls last Sunday to fill the 325-seat parliament and according to the initial results in Najaf and Babil the coalition of Maliki had 124,734 votes, just ahead of the Iraqi National Alliance coalition that had 108,583 votes.
The Independent High Electoral Commission may release initial results for the election after 30% of the votes are counted.
