Three strong earthquakes hit Chile Thursday morning. The first
quake, a 7.2 magnitude, struck at 11:39 a.m. just as the country was swearing
in new president Sebastian Pinera.
A 6.9 magnitude followed 16 minutes later. The third, a
6.0 magnitude, struck 27 minutes later. All three earthquakes were located
within 90 miles of Chile’s capital, Santiago. There were no immediate reports
of damages or injuries.
The temblors are the strongest aftershocks to hit Chile
since February’s 8.8. magnitude earthquake, which killed hundreds of people
and produced a tsunami.
