The Food and Drug Administration is warning doctors and patients about counterfeit surgical mesh being illegally marketed under the C.R. Bard (NYSE:BCR) brand name. The FDA has identified thirteen lots of Bard Flat Mesh that were not actually made by the company. The counterfeit products come in four sizes. The agency said in a statement it has not determined whether the mesh is safe for use. Surgical mesh is used to reinforce soft tissue following an operation. Doctors should carefully monitor patients for adverse effects if they have potentially received the affected products.
