Muslim Moved by Christian Hymns: New Book Gives Insight Into Other Faiths

Christianity and Islam have a shared history. They share the same God, though called by different names. Jesus and Mary appear in both faiths as well. Even some of the prophets are the same. A recent book by Amir Hussain entitled 'Oil & Water Two Faiths: One God'examines these similarities and differences.

Dr. Amir Hussain, is a Canadian Muslim who is also an adherent to a Christian church. Hussain is an Associate Professor in the Department of Theological Studies at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California. He teaches courses on world religions, and his specialty is the study of Islam, focusing on contemporary Muslim societies.  Hussain's recent book has started people talking about inter-faith understanding.

Bruce B. Lawrence, Director of the Duke Islamic Studies Center, says: “This beautifully written book surges from the heart of a devout Muslim moved by Christian hymns, but even more by a vision of collective devotion to the common good that all religions, at base, seek.”
