Russia and India Sign Nuclear Deal

With Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin already in India to discuss arms and energy contracts his country’s state-owned nuclear company, Rosatom, announced they would be constructing at least 12 nuclear reactors in India.

Those reactors would help move India from its dependence on coal which currently accounts for more than 50% of the country’s energy use.

Russia has been positioning itself to be the chief supplier of India’s nuclear needs but has found competition from French and U.S. firms as well as China. While there is competition Russia does have a favorable relationship with India as the two sides have forged a strong trading partnership over the years.
