Stephen Colbert Expected to Put His Name on South Carolina’s Democratic Primary Ballot

Comedian Stephen Colbert is expected to file papers that will enable him to put his name on South Carolina’s Democratic primary ballot as early as today or early Thursday.

Originally planning to run as both a Democrat and Republican, Colbert has apparently balked at the idea of filing for the Republican ballot due to its $35,000 price tag. The cost to file papers to appear on the Democratic primary ballot is $2,500 but that cost will be waived if Colbert can collect 3,000 signatures of registered voters in South Carolina.

While Colbert is sincere in his efforts, it still remains to be seen if the state’s Democratic Party executive council will approve his application.
