Do Dogs Have Souls?

Discover this and more in The Spirituality of Pets

In the latest addition to Northstone’s Spirituality Series, The Spirituality of Pets, James Taylor explores not only the intimate relationships we have with our pets – but also raises the questions of whether animals themselves are spiritual. What is their relationship with the Divine? What can they teach us about our own spiritual relationships? According to Taylor, “They may or may not have spirituality themselves – and by the way I do think that many animals experience elements of awe and wonder, just as we do – certainly their association with us affects our spirituality.”

In the latest Writer’s Digest non-fiction report it is cited that two of the hottest topics in non-fiction publishing are spirituality and pets. According to Maria Schneider of Writer’s Digest, “there’s a huge segment of America that’s very interested in spiritual issues”. Karen Holt, deputy editor of Publishers Weekly states, “A fuzzy new category (pets) is putting big paw prints on the bestseller lists.” Taylor encapsulates both of these themes in the heart-warming and inspiring, The Spirituality of Pets, available now from Northstone Publishing.

In this full-colour, beautifully illustrated book, James Taylor invites readers to explore their own spirituality, through the lens of the animals that share their lives. Readers will recognize their own pets - and themselves - in many of the stories about the animal companions that have filled Taylor’s life. Fascinating insights from those who have studied the lives of pets and other animals add to the richness and depth of Taylor’s text.

Associated Church Press Award-winning editor and author James Taylor resides in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia where he continues to add to his list of titles in print - while giving spiritual insight in a weekly newspaper column.
