Suicide Bombings in Southern Afghanistan Kill at least 25

The southern Afghan city of Kandahar has been hit by four suspected suicide bombings, killing at least 25 people and leaving dozens more injured.

According to reports the largest explosion took place near the city’s main prison and the extent of the damage remains unknown but the building is said to be secured.

A second bomb was said to target the compound of Kandahar’s police chief while another was detonated near the home of President Hamid Karzai’s half-brother, Ahmad Wali Karzai, head of Kandahar’s provincial council.

The four bombings were believed to be orchestrated by Taliban insurgents as Kandahar had at one time been a stronghold for the militants.
