College Basketball Scores: Houston Punches Ticket to NCAA Tournament with Upset Over UTEP

Heading into the Conference USA tournament the Houston Cougars knew they would need a title to punch their ticket to the NCAA tournament and on Saturday that’s just what they earned as they stunned the UTEP Miners 81-73.

UTEP led 43-38 at the break and had a nine point lead with under eight minutes left in the game but Houston fought its way back, eventually taking the lead at the 3:15 mark on a Kelvin Lewis three-pointer. Following a Miners turnover Adam Brown buried a triple and the Cougars were up 74-70 and UTEP never recovered.

Lewis led the Cougars with 28 points while Aubrey Coleman had a strong game with 13 points, 9 rebounds, six assists and four steals in the win.

The win sends the Cougars to the NCAA tournament for the first time in 18 years.
