College Basketball Scores: Ohio State Advances to Big Ten Finals after Topping Illinois in Double OT

The Ohio State Buckeyes moved into the Big Ten tournament finals after knocking off the Illinois Fighting Illini on Saturday 88-81 in double overtime.

With the loss the Illini remain on the bubble and will have to hope the NCAA tournament selection committee gives them the nod on Sunday. If the answer is no then Illinois will only have themselves to blame as they had countless chances to put the Buckeyes away on Saturday.

While the Illini fought back from a nine-point deficit late in the second half they had a chance at winning in regulation but despite having 15 seconds to find a shot they failed to get the ball off in time, sending the game into overtime.

It was more of the same in OT as Illinois found themselves even at 75-75 with 27 seconds on the clock but once again failed to get a shot off.

In the second overtime Illinois found themselves trailing by three with a minute left but a bucket from David Lighty gave the Buckeyes an 86-81 advantage and then Lighty picked off a pass and added a layup to push the advantage to seven and the game was over.

Big Ten player of the year Evan Turner put together another solid game, scoring 31 points, grabbing 10 rebounds and dishing out 6 assists before fouling out. Turner was aided by William Buford who added 22 points and 10 boards in the win.
