Tens of thousands of people in Tabasco, Mexico are believed to be trapped in their homes after torrential rains caused severe flooding. Rescue workers have been using helicopters to get people off roof tops, and have rescues others who have been clinging to lampposts to stay above water.
Mexican president Felipe Calderon has called the food “one of the worst natural disasters in the history of the country.” So far only one person has been confirmed dead and all crops have been lost.
Tabasco Governor Andres Granier described the flooding as “just like New Orleans.”
