'National Blackout Day' to Call for Economic Boycott Today

Rev. Al Sharpton and attorney/talk show host Warren Ballentine have called for a "National Blackout Day" today.

"The National Blackout Day" is a call to boycott spending for the day in order for African-Americans to show solidarity and make an economic impact. The impetus for this day is due to the rash of racial instances that have been perpetuated against African-Americans.

African-Americans make up 12% of America's population, but spend a whopping $2 billion a day. The thought of a solid boycott would show financial solidarity in order to show that African-Americans can come together financially in a time of need.

This boycott was arranged to see the effect of the economy if African-Americans didn't spend a single-dollar. With that said, the money African-Americans spend on everyday things can be used to counteract social injustice.

The boycott has been blasted on social networking sites, such as MySpace and Facebook, as well as with bloggers and e-mail blasts.
