Charmaine Dragun, Popular Australian News Anchor, Commits Suicide

Charmaine Dragun, a popular news anchor for Australia’s Channel Ten network, leapt to her death on Friday in an apparent suicide.

The 29-year-old was said to be undergoing treatment for depression and had recently switched medication when she decided to jump from The Gap, a spot in Australia’s Eastern Suburbs that has become notorious for suicides.

Channel Ten’s CEO Grant Blackley released a statement saying, ““Charmaine was a highly intelligent, vibrant and caring person, universally liked and admired by her colleagues. Our deepest sympathies go to her partner, Simon, and her family.”

Dragun had been a co anchor for the 5:00 pm News bulletin on the Ten News Perth and had filled in on the Morning News, Weekend News and read the Ten Late News on Friday nights.
