Many believe ‘Baby Grace’ maybe Madeleine McCann

The remains of a 2 to 3 year old girl found stuffed in a plastic storage container has sparked media and public attention across the country. The child’s identity is unknown, but police have named the girl ‘Baby Grace’ and has asked the public’s help for clues to her identity.

Hundreds of tips have poured in from around the country, and several tips have suggested the body might be that of the missing British girl Madeleine McCann. Madeleine’s case has also been highly publicized since she disappeared from a resort hotel in Portugal in May.

Baby Grace washed ashore on Galveston Bay in Galveston, Texas. Her remains were found by a fisherman. Sketches of Baby Grace were released to the pubic Friday in a bid to identify the girl.

The sketches of the girl bear a resemblance to Madeleine, but police don’t believe Baby Grace is Madeleine McCann.

“Based on the totality of the circumstances, we do not believe it’s her (Madeleine),” said Galveston County sheriff Ray Tuttoilmondo. He added that they are working with the FBI to confirm the child is not Madeleine.

Tuttoilmondo says they are also checking missing person cases to try to find a match. “It’s a slow process,” he says. “We have to call the original investigating agency and see if anything matches up.”
