Man Suspected of Killing Police Officer in Philadelphia Dunkin’ Donuts Apprehended in South Florida

John Lewis, the 21-year-old man wanted in connection with the shooting death of Philadelphia police officer Chuck Cassidy, was apprehended at a homeless shelter in South Florida Tuesday morning.

Lewis is believed to be the man responsible for gunning down Cassidy as the officer walked into a Dunkin’ Donuts on Oct. 31.

Cassidy routinely visited the Dunkin’ Donuts but on the morning of Halloween he walked in while Lewis was robbing the shop. Police believe Lewis was startled and shot the 25-year vet in the head before leaving the store with the officer’s gun.

Lewis was spotted by a Greyhound travel employee getting off a bus in South Florida on Monday and alerted authorities, leading to his apprehension Tuesday morning. He is currently at the Miami Police Department answering questions.
