Teacher Shot Outside Miami's Carol City High School

A teacher was shot outside of Carol City High School in Miami Tuesday. Police are still searching for the gunman.

According to police, two teachers walked off campus to smoke cigarettes when someone approached them and demanded money. When they refused, that person shot one of the teachers in the lower extremities.

The teacher was transported by ambulance to Jackson Memorial Hospital. The injuries were serious, but the teacher was conscious, cognizant and talked to paramedics.

Barbara Hawkins Elementary, Carol City Senior, Middle and Elementary schools were placed on lockdown indefinitely as a precaution.

The identity of the teacher has not been released, but it is said that the victim was a math teacher.

It is uncertain what happened to the other teacher or if the shooter was a student.

Police are searching for a shooter near the school and at a nearby apartment. A second person is also being sought.
