Toyota Evidence Inconclusive

Financial World News Update by Equities Magazine

After being sent in for tests and inspection, the Prius that lost control on a California highway last week has not shown evidence of electrical problems. U.S Federal investigators have not found any indicators as to why the car, driven by 61-year-old James Sikes, might have been unable to decelerate on a San Diego motorway.

In the week since the incident, engineers have driven the 2008 Prius in an effort to determine what caused the vehicle to reach 90 miles per hour on its own; however, nothing is conclusive as of yet. The Transportation Department recreated the drive, on Interstate 8, but were unable to identify the cause of the troubles.

"So far, we have not been able to find anything to explain the incident that Mr. Sikes reported," they reported. The Transporation Department added that the car has a system in it to identify when both the gas and brake are on. detects when both the accelerator and brake pedals are pushed down. The car will slow down when the application senses moderate pressure on the brake.

The brakes exhibited significant wear though it’s though that Sikes did not press consistently on the brakes with enough pressure to trigger the stop mechanism.
