ACO Icehole Cornhole Tournament a Day at the Race Track

Turfway Park in Florence, Kentucky was the perfect host for the start of the American Cornhole Organization Master Series Tour.

The weekend of cornhole fun, February 26-27, kicked off Friday Night with recreational players partnered with the ACO Top Guns in the ACO ProAM Luck of the Draw Tournament. This is the one opportunity an amateur cornhole player can match their skill to the Pros and experience the thrill of playing cornhole at the pro level.

ACO Pro Randy Atha and his amatuer partner Dave Wright from Hampton Virginia came out on top. They won the ProAm Tournament by taking out ACO Pro Noel True and his amateur partner Shelby Fryman from Alexandria Kentucky in the final round.

Saturday was a battle for CornyForty points in the featured event the Icehole Classic. The final four match-up was no surprise with Matt Guy, Randy Atha, and Steve Vanderver. But Darin Hill the fourth member of that final four, #19 seed, showed he was ready to compete with the ACO Top Guns. Steve and Matt made it to the finals and Matt showed Steve why he is called King taking the final match in two games.

On Saturday the ACO introduced the Master Series SocialSixty. The SocialSixty is for recreational cornhole players and is a ranking system that will be in place throughout 2010. The SocialSixty, free to ACO members, gives amateur cornhole players a chance to see how they compete on a National Scale. Points accumulate over the year to determine the Top Players in the SocialSixty and the top sixty will be awarded prizes at the end of the year.

After experiencing success at the IceHole Classic the ACO plans to include the SocialSixty as part of its Master Series and Signature Series Tour events.

ACO Competitive Doubles final was a match with Steve Vanderver of Norwood, Ohio and Dale Smith of Hamilton, Kentucky going against Matt Guy and his son Bret Guy of Alexandria, Kentucky. Steve and Dale won a hard fought match.

In the inaugual Master Series SocialSixty tournament there was a tie for second place. The Saturday event was a combination of tournaments. Players play in each tournament and the highest individual score for the three tournaments wins. A SocialSixty Doubles, Luck of the Draw, and SocialSixty Singles tournament were played throughout the day.

It was Tom McMurray from Fombell, Pennsylvania who outlasted the others for first place. Dustin Adkinson from Nashville, Tennessee and Paul Dehner from Cincinnati, Ohio tied for second place. Alana Grubbs from Plainfield Indiana made it clear the women are serious about the sport.
