Girl with Eight Limbs Recovering After Successful Surgery

Surgeons in Bangalore, India successfully removed four extra limbs from a two-year-old child on Wednesday and the toddler is now recovering in intensive care.

 

The young girl, Lakshmi Tatma, was born with four arms and four legs after her twin stopped developing in the womb of her mother. The second body never developed a head but the torso was joined to Lakshmi’s pelvis.

 

More than 30 surgeons comprised of specialists in neurosurgery, orthopedics, pediatrics and plastic surgery carried out the 27-hour operation. After the surgery head surgeon Dr. Sharan Patil announced that the child was “stable and sound” and that the operation “ws successful, there was no set back what so ever.”
