Warren Jeffs Attempted Suicide According to Court Documents

Warren Jeffs, the recently convicted leader of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (FLDS), attempted suicide earlier according to court documents that were unsealed on Tuesday.

In those documents it was noted that Jeffs attempted to hang himself in his jail cell on January 28 while he was awaiting his trial in which he was charged with being an accomplice to rape.  After the attempt he was placed on suicide watch.

Just three days prior to the suicide attempt Jeffs was visited by his brother, Nephi, who he told “I am not the prophet. I never was the prophet, and I have been deceived by the powers of evil ... I ask for everyone's forgiveness.”

Jeffs, 51, faces sentencing on November 20 for his role in coercing a 14-year-old girl to marry her 19-year-old cousin. Already convicted, Jeffs faces a sentence of up to life in prison.
