Space Shuttle Discovery Returns to Earth

Having completed their 15-day mission in which they made additions and repairs to the international space station, the seven-member crew of the space shuttle Discovery returned to Earth today, landing at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

As the crew’s Commander, Pamela A. Melroy became just the second woman to land a space shuttle.

Among the accomplishments completed during their time at the international space station was a repair to a solar wing that had become badly damaged. Considered a highly dangerous job, the repairs were made without a hitch. The crew also installed a pressurized compartment inside the space station dubbed Harmony.

While the seven-member crew was happy to be back, Clayton Anderson may have been a little more anxious to return. Anderson tagged along for the ride after spending 152 days at the space station.
