Hank Thompson dies days after canceling tour

Hank Thompson died late Tuesday only days after canceling his tour. The 82-year-old country singer was battling lung cancer and died at his home in Fort Worth surrounded by his family.

“He was battling aggressive lung cancer. He remained conscious until the last couple of hours and passed away peacefully at about 10:45 p.m. on Tuesday night surrounded by his family and friends,” said Tracy Pitcox, president of Heart of Texas Records.

Thompson had 29 of his song reach the top 10 and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1989. Thompson requested that no funeral be held. Instead there will be a “celebration of life” on November 14 at ‘Billy Bob’s Texas’ in Fort Worth.

Thompson is survived by his wife, Ann. They did not have children.
