Michael Mazza Confesses to Killing Sheriff’s Deputy

Shortly after being apprehended by authorities outside a Hollywood, Florida pawn shop, Michael Mazza confessed to overpowering and killing a sheriff’s deputy who was transporting the convicted felon to court earlier in the day.

Mazza had been serving a life sentence for an armed robbery when he was being transported to court where the second day of his trial for a bank robbery was taking place.

Deputy Paul Rein was transporting Mazza in a medical van when the altercation took place. Shortly after the two got on the road Mazza overpowered Rein and took the officer’s firearm and shot him.

A truck driver saw the altercation and immediately notified police who then launched a manhunt for Mazza.

After being caught Mazza eventually confessed to shooting Rein.

Rein, 76, had been a 20-year vet for the Broward Sheriff’s Office transport division.
