Andre Agassi Apologizes to Pete Sampras

Agassi Regrets Poking Fun at Sampras During Charity Event

During a Haiti relief charity match last week, Andre Agassi took the opportunity to poke fun at rival Pete Sampras.  Agassi’s comments about Sampras’ supposed stinginess weren’t his first; he also called him a poor tipper in his autobiography.  Sampras apparently took the jokes personally, as he responded by attacking Agassi with a very hard serve during the game, causing him to duck.

Agassi has since apologized, telling Rick Reilly that he was “out of line.”  He admitted that it was a failed attempt at humor and that he would like to apologize to Sampras in person.  Fortunately, the event itself was a success, having raised $1 million for Haiti relief efforts.
