NCAA Tournament: Winthrop and Arkansas-Pine Bluff Face Off in Play-In Game, Winner to Meet Duke Blue Devils

The NCAA Tournament will begin on Thursday afternoon but for Winthrop (19-13) or Arkansas-Pine Bluff (17-15) it will end on Tuesday night as the two teams matchup in the play-in game with the winner going on to face the South Region number one seed Duke Blue Devils on Friday.

Winthrop earned their trip to the play-in game after a surprising run through the Big South conference tournament where they knocked off Liberty, Radford and Coastal Carolina to capture the title. Prior to the conference tournament the Eagles had dropped both regular season games against Radford and had split with Coastal Carolina.

The Golden Lions of Arkansas-Pine Bluff (17-15) reached the play-in game after winning the SWAC conference tournament and have won 11 of their last 12 games. If the Golden Lions are able to get past Winthrop on Tuesday night they certainly won’t be star struck when they face Duke as Arkansas-Pine Bluff has already played UTEP, Oklahoma State, Georgia Tech, Missouri and Kansas State; all teams that made the NCAA Tournament.

Tip off for Tuesday night’s game between Winthrop and Arkansas-Pine Bluff is set for 7;30 p.m. ET.
