Norman Mailer, Pulitzer Prize-Winning, Author Dies at 84

Norman Mailer, author of “The Naked and the Dead” and the Pulitzer Prize winning “The Executioner’s Song,” and “The Armies of the Night” died early this morning in New York at the age of 84.

 

A co-founder of the famous weekly newspaper The Village Voice, Mailer was considered a pioneer in what became known as New Journalism, in which he implemented creative writing into nonfiction works.

 

For more than 50 years Mailer was a dominant figure in the literary scene as he wrote hundreds of works in form of novels, articles, screenplays and poems. In 2005, Mailer was honored with the Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters, presented by The National Book Foundation.
