Stepfather Arrested in Death of 9-Year-Old Rowan Ford

Police have arrested two men in connection with the death of Rowan Ford, the 9-year-old Missouri girl found in a cave in the southwest corner of the state.

One of the two men was the stepfather of the girl, 24-year-old David Spears. Police also arrested a friend of Spears.

Rowan Ford had been left with Spears while her mother, Colleen Spears, was working a late-night shift at her job. After coming home and not seeing her daughter notified authorities that Rowan was missing.

David Spears was a suspect from the outset of the investigation after telling police that he had left the girl at home when he went out with some friends. Spears also told authorities that he borrowed his mother’s car shortly after 1:00 a.m. and was gone for nearly six hours. When questioned by investigators as to his whereabouts during that period Spears had no answer.

Ford had been missing since Nov. 3 but her body was found on Friday in the small town of Stella
