George Karl Back With the Nuggets

George Karl, who is currently battling neck and throat cancer, was back on the bench as the head coach of the Denver Nuggets Tuesday night in a 97-87 win over the Washington Wizards.  It was Karl’s first game back after missing four games for chemotherapy and radiation treatment.  He didn’t do much to change what acting head coach Adrian Dantley already had in motion, as the team had gone 3-1 under his leadership.  However, the players were happy to see him back on the bench and are trying their best to win for him, which Joey Graham claims Karl said was “the best treatment for him.”

Karl previously fought a successful battle against prostate cancer several years ago.  His bout with neck and throat cancer was announced during a press conference after this year’s All-Star Game, in which he coached the Western Conference All-Stars.
