Pope Benedict XVI to Make First U.S. Visit Next Year

Archbishop Pietro Sambi informed the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops that Pope Benedict XVI would be making his first visit to the United States as head of the Catholic Church in April of next year.

 

Benedict is scheduled to visit Washington and New York during his April 15-20 stay.

 

The pontiff will be officially welcomed at the White House on April 16 and celebrate mass at the new National Stadium on April 17. Benedict will then travel to New York where he will speak at the United Nations on April 18.

 

Benedict will also visit ground zero and lead mass at Yankee Stadium on April 20, the last day of his trip.

 

Throughout his trip Benedict will be meeting with priests, educators and youth.
