Nun Norma Giannini pleads no contest to child molestation

A nun pleaded no contest two counts of child molestation on Monday. Sister Norma Giannini, 79, had sexual intercourse with two boys more than 160 times while she was principal at St. Patrick’s School in Milwaukee, Illinois in the 1960’s.

Giannini is a member of the Sisters of Mercy and taught at several Catholic Schools before working as principal at St. Patrick’s. After leaving the Milwaukee school, Giannini returned to her hometown of Chicago and worked in several other school’s until the 1990’s.

The Sisters of Mercy admitted that they “learned of” Giannini’s sexual behavior with the boys in the 90’s and sent her to a treatment facility before she retired for health reasons.

Giannini will be sentenced in February 1 and faces 10 years in prison for each count.
