Man Killed by Alligator After Trying to Flee from Police

A Miami, Florida man was killed by an alligator after he dove into a pond while trying to flee from police.

Police had arrived at the Miccosukee Indian Reservation after receiving reports that several cars had been broken into. The officers were able to apprehend one man but the second man ran.

In his haste the man dove into a retention pond located behind a casino and hotel, ignoring a sign that warned there were alligators in the pond. According to reports several people began to scream for the man to swim back to shore but by the time he noticed the alligator it was too late.

The man was said to be screaming before the alligator took him underwater.

Authorities were able to capture the alligator as well as a smaller gator and recover the man’s body. He had been bitten several times in the head. According to Florida law the two alligators must be destroyed.
