Danero Thomas buried a 15-foot jumper as time expired to lift the #13 Murray State Racers past the #4 Vanderbilt Commodores 66-65 in West Region action on Thursday.
Vandy was able to grab a 65-64 lead after Jermaine Beal sank a pair of free-throws with 12 seconds left but the Commodores failed to grab a rebound, knocking the ball out of bounds to set up Thomas’ game-winner.
Murray State managed to shot 47 percent from beyond the three-point line but were a dismal 9-17 from the free-throw line. Unfortunately for the Commodores they were unable to capitalize as they were just as bad, hitting 17-29 from the stripe.
Murray State will now face the winner of the Butler-UTEP game.
