Northern Chile Rocked by Major Earthquake

A magnitude 7.7 earthquake rocked northern Chile on Wednesday, knocking over trees and power lines and closing major roads for several miles around the epicenter of Quillahua.

 

Quillahua is located near the Chuquicamata copper mine in Calama.

 

The quake was felt nearly 800 miles away in the capital city of Santiago as well as in Peru and Bolivia.

 

There have been no reports of injuries.
