Stephen Strasburg, baseball’s top pitching prospect, has been sent to the minor leagues by the Washington Nationals despite an impressive spring in which he gave up two runs and struck out 12 in nine innings of work.
The 21-year-old righty was optioned to Harrisburg more for protection than anything else as the Nationals don’t want to rush their future ace. According to Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo “I'm not a believer that a player can come from amateur baseball and step right into the major leagues.”
Washington wants Strasburg to work on slowing down his delivery from the stretch, something they believe will help him when he eventually makes the major league squad.
