Detroit moves above St. Louis as it tops the nation's most dangerous cities list Sunday. Last year, St. Louis was No. 1 in the "City Crime Rankings: Crime in Metropolitan America," which was published by CQ Press, a unit of Congressional Quarterly Inc., but has now been seceded by the "Motor City".
St. Louis is now No. 2, followed by Flint, Mich.; Oakland; and Camden, N.J. in the top five.
Birmingham, Ala.; North Charleston, S.C.; Memphis, Tenn.; Richmond; and Cleveland round out the top 10.
This year, the controversial report looked at 378 cities with at least 75,000 people. Its conclusions were based on per-capita rates for homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary and auto theft.
Many law enforcement agencies do not consider the list to be credible, for it doesnot take into account the different variables that cause crime in each area.
