The Minnesota Twins have signed an 8-year, $184 million extension contract with their star catcher and hitter, Joe Mauer. The no-trade deal is the richest in the history of team, and some are worried that the cost of the contract might leave the Twins with little elbow room for future negotiations. In any case, Twins fans are surely happy to hear that Joe Mauer has decided to stay in his hometown for perhaps the rest of this professional playing career. Mauer made his MLB debut in 2004 with the Twins, and he has since proven himself to be one of the best hitters in the league and one of the best catchers of all time. He led the AL in batting average for 3 years and was named the 2009 AL MVP.
