Internal U.N. Report Indicates Afghan Bodyguards Responsible for Majority of Deaths in Nov. 6 Attack

The bloody aftermath of a suicide bombing in the Baghlan province in Afghanistan on Nov. 6 left 77 dead and more than 100 injured. Now an internal U.N. report has indicated that nearly 2/3 of those killed may have died from the gunfire that took place after the bombing.

It was that shooting that has launched a U.N. investigation into the matter as many of the dead were school children who had been in close proximity to the bombing when it occurred.

A suicide bomber was targeting several parliamentarians when he detonated his explosive while the lawmakers were being greeted by schoolchildren who were on an outing to a sugar factory.

After the bomb went off, several bodyguards opened fire into the crowd of mainly children. In the internal report it was indicated that more than 100 rounds were fired into the crowd with the onslaught lasting up to five minutes.

While the report has placed blame on the bodyguards for several of the deaths the findings have not been officially endorsed by the U.N.
