Gilbert Arenas May Have Pressured Teammate

According to prosecutors, Gilbert Arenas attempted to pressure Javaris Crittenton into a cover-up of the December confrontation that has since landed both of them in legal trouble. On January 1, it was reported that these two members of the Washington Wizards had drawn guns on each other in a locker room as part of some kind of argument between the two regarding a card game gambling debt. Both of the players have since been suspended indefinitely from the NBA by commissioner David Stern. On January 25th, Crittenton pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor gun possession charge and was sentenced to one year of probation. He said that he only drew a gun because he feared for his safety, but Arenas says that the guns were simply part of an ongoing joke. Arenas pleaded guilty to a felony gun possession charge on January 15 and he awaits his March 26th sentencing. Prosecutors are saying that Arenas sent a text message to another teammate that he wanted to be forwarded to Crittenton; supposedly, it read '"Ur new story. U were n the training rm when u got out there were 3 guns on ur chair with a note. That said pick one... Ill come up with the story. But that all he needs to say." A spokesperson for Arena's defense lawyer has declined to comment on this text message. Prosecutors are asking for a months-long prison sentence, while his lawyers are hoping that the NBA star will only receive probation and community service.
