Tom Johnson, the hockey Hall of Fame defenseman who collected six Stanley Cups and collected the Norris Trophy in 1959 as the NHL’s top defenseman, died on Wednesday at the age of 79.
Johnson played 15 seasons for the Montreal Canadiens and finished his career in a Boston Bruins uniform in 1965.
After retiring Johnson moved into the Bruins front office and eventually took over as the head coach following the 1970 season. In 1972 Johnson led the Bruins to a Stanley Cup title and then returned to
Johnson retired in 1998.
