Famed Spanish Actor and Director Fernando Fernan-Gomez Dies at 86

Fernando Fernan-Gomez, the legendary Spanish actor and director, died on Wednesday night at the age of 86.

 

Fernan-Gomez had a career that spanned six decades with his first appearance in film coming in 1943’s “Turbante Blanco.” His final work was “Fuera de Carta” which is currently in post production.

 

As a director, Fernan-Gomez won a Goya for “El Viaje a Ninguna Parte.” He also collected a pair of Goya Awards for best screenplay for “El Viaje a Ninguna Parte” and “Lázaro de Tormes.” His acting work earned him three Goya Awards as well.

 

On Thursday several hundred people stopped at Madrid’s Teatro Espanol theatre to honor the man who helped shape Spain’s film industry. He will be crmated on Friday.
