De Beers Selling Cullinan Diamond Mine in South Africa

De Beers has announced that it will be selling its famed Cullinan Diamond Mine in South Africa to the second largest diamond producer in the country, Petra Diamonds Cullinan Consortium.

 

The deal is valued at $147 million dollars and further promotes De Beers pledge to support a more diversified diamond industry that would include black empowerment initiatives.

 

In 1905 the world’s largest rough diamond was discovered in the Cullinan Mine. Known as The Cullinan Diamond, the gem weight over 3000 carats.
